The secret to a wonderful life is to create a life you still want to be in even when you’re deeply struggling. Life becomes extra wonderful as you learn to behold both difficulties and ease-fulness, grief and joy, healing processes and coherence, at the same time, without bypassing any of it.
Goals have expiration dates. When you have a North Star as a direction without a timeline, but rather as an orientation of who you become, any process, including your hardest times, have deep meaning. And the most ordinary moments become processes that catalyze you into someone you respect with integrity.
It’s not about creating a life without suffering or challenges. It’s about discovering the deep meaning behind your challenges and suffering as the fodder for your becoming.
Much of society talks about ways to try to eliminate pain, suffering, or solely live with ease. It’s not about avoiding these things, but learning how to address what you actually need, and becoming more coherent through the hard stuff.
I think that a fundamental component to creating a life you love is involving benevolence in everything you do.
